There is no hiding the fact that insurance for new drivers can be extremely expensive!
There are some insurance companies now that appear to be trying to do something to help the young driver. I say 'appear' because in many cases their young driver schemes that limit the times when you can drive by installing a tracker in your car are no cheaper than an ordinary policy. They charge you for installing the device, monitoring it and a hefty fee if you drive after 11 pm.
Things could be changing though. One or two companies seem to be altering this market by installing a 'black box' that monitors your driving at no cost and not limiting your driving hours. I recently got a quote from Bell for a 17 year old for much less than I've seen for a long time, an 18 year old that I teach got a quote for half that amount. As always there are professions that are 'liked' and others that are 'disliked' and having named drivers with good records on the policy helps.
